Trying to Get Started!

Oh gosh! I keep trying to start this project but I can't seem to make any progress. I wanted a project that I could work on by hand. I needed something portable and slightly mindless to work on. I chose to do this BOM because it was English paper piecing and each month I would receive the papers for the blocks for that month.

When I received the first set of papers and fabric, the kit also included templates for cutting out the pie shapes. First, I think the templates could have been just a little bit bigger. You cut the fabric pieces out first then place the paper (very thick paper!) on top of the fabric. Then you are supposed to fold the fabric over the paper and glues it down. Because the fabric is not much larger than the paper, it is difficult to fold it over and glue. The glue is messy and I find that there is no space to actually put your needle when stitching.

I actually would have preferred the papers to be thinner so I could quickly baste the fabric over instead of using the messy glue. Then I would have plenty of fabric along the edge to insert the needle.
